It is a great privilege to be allowed by the Commodore to make this presentation to the recipient of the Clwb Hwylio Pwllheli Sailing Club Lifetime Contribution Award.
This recipient first became a member of CHPSC in 1974 and is one of the longest standing members of the club. Not as long as Ann though!
As a keen offshore sailor, he has promoted and supported racing in the club for over 5 decades.
His first offshore race in ISORA was in 1975. Then with various boats of the 'Jack' title he became a regular podium winner in Club racing and in ISORA. He is a proud title holder of the ISORA Championship and a repeated winner of the prestigious Wolf's Head Trophy 1995, 1996 and 2002. He has been on the ISORA podium 4 times in the last 5 years.
He was an instigator of the Pwllheli Challenge and presented the magnificent trophies that we all aspire to win every autumn.
In recent years he has gained international recognition in his campaigning of Jackknife and Pata Negra in many high profile events and always representing, and promoting, our Club.
The special achievements in recent years:
- 3rd overall and second in class in the 2021 Fastnet Race
- 3rd in Class in the 2024 Middle Sea race.
- Podium spots in ISORA Championships for many years
- Part of the CHPSC team for the ISORA team Championships a title our Club has held for over a decade!
He has helped put Pwllheli on the world map and has given many of our members opportunities to sail in some magnificent events that would not otherwise be available.
Although Andrew has shied away from the inner workings of the club he has contributed quietly to promote and support club officers for decades.
He was proud to become the 'Assistant Bosun' at the Event Centre a status he himself modestly promoted.
He assisted behind the scenes with many facets of Plas Heli. His business acumen is a resource he volunteered willingly without expectation of a wider public recognition or renumeration.
I am delighted that his contribution to Pwllheli Sailing Club is recognised tonight with this award. A special award, the Pwllheli Sailing Club Lifetime Contribution Award.
